Flugplatz St. Stephan – LSTS – Runway 14/32

Nestled in the Upper Simmental at an elevation of 998 meters, St. Stephan is a former Swiss Air Force tactical base that officially transitioned to a permanent civilian airfield in October 2025. Known for its historical role as a „Reduit“ site, it features a substantial asphalt runway, 14/32, measuring 1,742 meters in length and 40 meters in width. This impressive expanse, originally designed for fighter jet operations, offers a powerful sense of symmetry. From the centre of the runway, the centre line forms a striking guide line to the towering peaks of the Wildstrubel massif.

A wide, wet runway stretches into the distance, bordered by snow-covered fields and forested mountains under a cloudy sky with patches of sunlight. Distant buildings dot the snowy landscape.
