Site-specific, temporary sculptures on the Kniepsand of the German North Sea island of Amrum.
The Kniepsand on the North Sea island of Amrum looks like an infinite sandpit, inviting you in to play with its fine sand. This location tempted me to play with the sand, too: a strange game. Thanks to the abundant sand, a site-specific, temporary work arose in this infinite, almost unpopulated landscape. My artistic and material engagement with tights is focused on transforming these industrial products into abstract bodies and exoskeletons. Through this playful work, I sought to discover, visually and haptically, how the shape of the polyamide tights altered and how the fabric behaved as it stretched. The colours and shapes of the fabric created formal connections with the landscape. Driven by the wind, the sand clung to the bodies and made visible the structural changes that the surface of the sand was undergoing on both sides.
